Creating nature-positive, biodiverse landscapes in a workplace environment

Nurture Group Stand: 4/B54
With the introduction of the Environment Act 2021, developers must achieve a minimum 10% Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) from January 2024. The urgency to address biodiversity loss is reinforced by reports showing declines in plant species and pollinators across the UK.
Supporting Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and conservation efforts
Many businesses are looking for effective ways to enhance biodiversity within their landscapes. This is where Nurture Group’s Biodiversity Action Plans (BAPs) provide invaluable support. These plans assess existing biodiversity measures and provide strategic recommendations, including wildflower planting, to create vibrant and purposeful green spaces.

Our BAPs help businesses:

- Identify, map, and evaluate their site's biodiversity.
- Implement targeted actions, such as planting native species like Lavender, Hebe, Sedum, and Red Valerian to attract pollinators.
- Introduce sustainable landscaping elements, including mulch planters and new hedgerows.

Harnessing biodiversity: Cultivating wildflowers for sustainable landscaping
Biodiversity is at the heart of sustainable landscaping, and one of the most effective ways to support local ecosystems is through wildflower planting. Across the UK, wildflower meadows are gaining popularity, not just for their vibrant beauty but also for their essential role in conserving native flora and fauna. However, successful wildflower integration requires careful planning, ongoing maintenance, and thoughtful placement within existing landscapes.

Why wildflowers matter for sustainability, and how can we create a wildflower haven

The UK has lost over 97% of its wildflower meadows since the 1930s, leading to a decline in pollinators like bees and butterflies. Wildflowers are crucial for restoring ecosystems, stabilizing soil, conserving water, and providing essential habitats for insects and birds. Integrating wildflowers into landscapes is a simple yet effective way to counteract biodiversity loss.

Spring is the ideal time to introduce wildflowers into outdoor spaces. Whether you’re enhancing corporate grounds or revitalizing a neglected area, strategic planning is key. Selecting the right location, preparing the soil, and choosing native seeds suited to local conditions will ensure long-term success.

Wildflowers in corporate landscape environments
Facilities managers and businesses play a crucial role in biodiversity conservation. Incorporating wildflowers into landscape designs enhances both environmental and employee well-being. From border edges to container gardens, wildflowers offer creative and adaptable solutions for any outdoor space.

By implementing sustainable practices such as no-mow initiatives, businesses can further support ecosystem health and climate resilience. Thoughtful maintenance, including weed management and species selection, ensures that wildflower areas remain both visually appealing and ecologically beneficial.

Sowing the seeds of ghange
Embracing wildflowers in landscaping is more than just a trend, it’s a commitment to a more sustainable future. These resilient plants require minimal maintenance while offering maximum ecological benefits. By cultivating wildflowers, we not only create visually stunning spaces but also support the intricate web of life that sustains our environment.

Now is the time to prepare the ground, plant the seeds, and take action for biodiversity - one wildflower at a time.
